The ROVs are used for underwater search and recovery missions that are difficult and dangerous for divers or performed in challenging conditions. Recently using the Boxfish ROV, researchers from NIWA New Zealand recovered a scientific buoy after it went missing in late March, 2021.
The Boxfish ROV was able to locate the buoy, to thread a rope through a hole in it, and a crank on the boat hauled it – all 3 tonnes of it – to the surface.
