AUCKLAND. – February 21, 2019 – After a massive start to the New Year in Antarctica, Boxfish Research, New Zealand’s leading underwater robotics startup announced, they have just returned from another overseas adventure. Trainer and experienced diver Russell Hughes arrived back in New Zealand from Japan, where he spent a week in ROV training with Japanese distributor, Cosmos Shoji.
Cosmos Shoji is a Japanese subsea equipment supplier, through the importation, selling and leasing of equipment, they provide technical services necessary for oil, natural gas and geothermal development. Boxfish has been working with Cosmos over a long period, initially with distribution of the Boxfish 360, and now with the purchase of their demonstration ROV.
“We have been building a relationship with Cosmos over the last six months and have had the pleasure of visiting Japan twice. Cosmos have built up a great reputation with many universities, government agencies as well as the oil and gas industry. We are excited to begin this journey with them, in hopes of building great relationships with our Japanese clientele.”
During this last week, Hughes and the team have been focused on ROV training. The goal of this trip has been to fully train Cosmos in order for them to provide training to clients in the future. Once training is complete Boxfish have the objective to expand distribution throughout Asia, in areas of inspection, science, research and film making. Japan is a country rich in sea recourses and with the help of Cosmos enthusiasm, it is the perfect entry point into the Asian market.
“We had so much fun in Japan! It has been great to not only demonstrate our product but also train users on the ROV and its operation. I am so pleased to be working with our main distributor and to be able to give them the confidence to showcase this unit in Japan moving forward.”
As a rising New Zealand startup Boxfish are ecstatic to begin the distribution and selling process overseas. Through this next step, the Kiwi startup hopes to begin the initial stages of global distribution.
